Motive for fatal, rush-hour George Washington Bridge shooting revealed, victim ID'd as Con Ed worker: cops

The deadly shooting of a driver along the George Washington Bridge appeared to stem from a burst of road rage, law enforcement sources said Wednesday – as police identified the slain man.

Koran Irvine, 46 – described by loved ones as a dad “family man” – took a bullet to the right shoulder around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday on the New Jersey-bound upper level of the crossing, cops said.

A person of interest was taken into custody less than 24 hours after the deadly violence and was being questioned Wednesday afternoon, the sources said.

“He's a family man,” a cousin who did not want to be identified told The Post Wednesday. “Has always been a family man, and he lived his life 100% for his family, stayed out of trouble. And I am in disbelief at this point in time."

"He was a man that lived for his family 100% – the only thing that he loved near and dear to his heart as much as his family was the Jets."

Irvine – who worked for Con Edison and lived in Valley Cottage, Rockland County – was driving on the span when he appeared to slightly swerve toward the suspect’s car, law enforcement sources said.

Video reviewed by investigators then shows the other driver’s car – apparently a dark colored sedan – veering back into the middle lane as both motorists entered the upper level, the sources said.

The other driver then pulled up on the rear passenger side of Irvine’s car, sparking his ride to suddenly jerk – likely the moment the shooting happened, according to the sources.

Irvine’s ride then rolled into the median and came to a stop, before the suspect drove off , the sources said.

Irvine was rushed to Englewood Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

Investigators preliminarily believe a single shot was fired – piercing the back window and grazing a head rest before entering the victim’s right shoulder and exiting the left side of his neck, according to the sources.

It was not immediately clear whether more than one person was inside the suspect’s car.

Irvine – who recently celebrated 20 years with Con Edison – was working overtime Wednesday and often picked up extra shifts, kin said.

Con Edison mourned the loss of their worker Wednesday.

"We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a member of the Con Edison family in this senseless act of violence,” the energy company said in a statement. “Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew and loved him.”
